We are pleased to announce that the 2nd Annual USC Stem Cell and Developmental Biology Retreat will be held from October 25 to 26 (Sunday - Monday) at the USC Wrigley Marine Science Center at Two Harbors, Catalina Island

The retreat provides an opportunity for faculty and lab members from many parts of USC to meet together in a casual and focused setting to interact and discuss their current work. We will have a mixture of talks from faculty, post-docs, and students, and a poster session and party on Sunday night. We hope that the USC Stem Cell and Developmental Biology Retreat will be one of the major activities of the year!

The Marine Science Center is located on a small cove at the quiet end of Catalina Island in close proximity to the beach and a marine reserve. We have fully booked the Marine Science Center and will have this part of Catalina Island all to ourselves! Unless you have your own plane or boat, you need to take a ferry to get to Two Harbors. Although the exact ferry schedule has yet to be announced, we anticipate that the ferry will leave Sunday from San Pedro at 12:30pm and arrive at Two Harbors at 2:00pm. The return trip on Monday will depart at around 4:15pm for a 5:45pm arrival. Further details will come.

In addition, we are very pleased to have Prof. Gerold Schubiger of the University of Washington as our keynote speaker. Gerold Schubiger is one of the great Drosophila geneticists of our time and has trained and mentored many successful scientists. Since the 1980s, he has had a keen interest in blastema formation and the connections between, regeneration, transdetermination, and pluripotency. He is in a rare position to convey historical and current perspectives on the biological mechanisms of regeneration.
